Switzerland pictures

Finally got these captioned and ready to share. They are a bit out of order; we must have had different time set on our phones than the camera, so you'll see the same things a few times from each of our phones and the camera. https://photos.app.goo.gl/4u4UqXTjCAsC3s3m2

Train, Plane, and Automobile

I woke up at 7 and got ready; Lauren woke up at 7:45 - by far the earliest she's been up in a while! We got all ready, packed, and Lauren and I ate - I had bought a yogurt/muesli thing at the grocery store as I knew I'd need something before all our travel! We checked out at 8:30 and made the 5 minute walk to the train station ... and then sat around for half an hour for our train (it was on time, we were just really early). The train was pretty full, but we were some of the first on, so got seats and luggage stowed and all that. An older woman sat across from me and talked to Lauren and me in German a bit - I just nodded and smiled :) The train was supposed to go all the way to the airport, but instead they announced we needed to switch trains in the main Zurich train station. They were on tracks right next to each other, so not a big deal. The airport station is right below the airport itself, so just a quick escalator ride up and we were by the check in desks. I got in lin...

Lake Lucerne

Jeff wanted to do a boat tour on Lake Lucerne, so we scoped them out yesterday and had a 1 hour cruise picked out for 12:45. We stopped at a bakery, I wound up just pointing at a pastry that ended up being filled with both cream puff filing and a melted Toblerone. Talk about decadent. I shared with Lauren again, so that makes it better, right? We had a little time to kill before the boat ride, so we scoped out some chocolate shops and bought a gift. Then back to the boat. The boat itself was beautiful; all covered with big windows downstairs, which was perfect since it was a drizzly, overcast day. We got an audio tour with our ticket - Jeff listened, I only did for a few minutes since Lauren liked pulling off my headphones :) Got some nice views around the lake. Back for nap time after the boat ride. We picked up McDonald's for lunch on the way back to the hotel; Jeff wanted to see if it was different than at home. We played and ate fries and then napped. It ends up being a p...

Bakeries, bridges and picnic dinner

Lauren slept great last night, didn't wake up until after 9. So we got another late start, but I guess that's the trade off when we have dinner and she goes to bed at 10. Curious to see what happens with her sleep schedule when we get home. Last night we went to a place near the hotel for dinner. Jeff got a brat with onion sauce and rosti; I got rosti with ham and a fried egg on top - tasty! This morning we stopped at a bakery, my request, and I got a "milk coffee" and an apple turnover. We headed across the famous kapellbrücke (covered bridge) and then sat so I could share my treat with Lauren. She was a fan. Then we wandered our way over to the lion monument. We ended up sitting on a bench not far from there to feed Lauren and lots of people walking around on their lunch break or sitting to eat. We wandered for a while trying to find something for lunch. Jeff must have walked into and out of 6 places trying to find something he wanted. We had finally almost ma...

Arrived in Lucerne

One last breakfast at Beausite, then we got packed up. Drizzling slightly on our way to the train, but so much easier heading down hill with all our stuff! We actually arrived just in time to catch the 1030 train but decided to wait for the 11 we'd planned to catch since the train was so packed and it would've left us with a half hour wait for the train to Lucerne anyway. Sunday must be a big day to leave as the train was packed with people with lots of luggage. We stood on the train to Lauterbrunnen and then hopped on another really busy train to Interlaken. We ended up standing in sort of a luggage area between cars, but it worked out because it wasn't so hot and crowded! In Interlaken we caught the train to Lucerne and got seats for us and our luggage. Almost 2 hours on this train. Lauren nursed and slept for the first half. She did great once she woke up until there was about 20 minutes left... then we just plied her with Cheerios and bounced around as I counted the min...

Jungfrau marathon

Lauren got her best night sleep last night (and therefore we did too!). Up twice to eat, but went right back to sleep. Woke up around 815 and we all got ready and went to breakfast. We have our routine down now... pancake for Lauren; yogurt/oatmeal, fried egg, coffee for me; whatever looks good for Jeff! They have a nice spread and clearly cater to lots of nationalities and dietary needs... they've got eggs to order, pancakes/ sausage/ bacon/ beans, fresh cheese and meat, lots of bread, cereal, yogurt, fruit... fresh squeezed juice (including kiwi!), gluten free bread and museli, milk, lactose free milk, soy milk... Nap after breakfast again and then we bundled up...it was raining pretty good but we wanted to check out the marathon. We are so lucky the weather was nice for us all week until Saturday... originally there was a good chance of rain every day! But we ended up with 2 gorgeous days, 3 overcast but nice, and then rainy Saturday. The marathon came right past the hotel and...

Lauterbrunnen and Mürren, updated

Lauren and I are reading books, Jeff's at the laundromat. Really good day today. 21,000 steps! We're pooped! Walked thru the Lauterbrunnen valley, so beautiful. Wonderful day for it, too. Then up a cable car to Murren. I will post more later, but my phone battery is low and I'm going to try to get Lo to sleep. Update:  Yesterday was awesome. Jeff said it was his favorite hike, I still think Mannlichen too Kleine Scheidegg is my fave, but this was a very close second.  Started with breakfast again. L ate more pancakes, I got a fried egg and a roll with Nutella. Yum! Ooh, and the coffee, so good.  Then a nap for L and we got packed for the day. Caught the noon train to Lauterbrunnen. It was our first time leaving the station there; we've changed trains there a ton, but never left the platform. Town was really nice, and we had a gorgeous sunny day. The first waterfall is just outside of the main drag and then we got on what a blog I read called "a ...

Wilderswil

Pretty low key day today. We did get down for breakfast, finally, and they had a nice spread. Lauren really enjoyed some pancakes and had everyone in the dining room fawning over her. One of the wait staff brought a high chair for her, then another one saw it was way too big for her, so ran to find a pillow to put behind her back. Very sweet. I enjoyed yogurt with oatmeal. Oooh, and the coffee. They asked if we'd like coffee or tea and I didn't expect much, but they brought a tiny pot of freshly brewed coffee and a medium pitcher of warm milk! I'm making sure we get to breakfast again tomorrow if only for the coffee 😊 Then we packed a bag and headed for Wilderswil, just outside of Interlaken. We'd heard from Michelle and Jason Eigsti that there was a good Italian place there and we figured we needed to go for lunch since dinner would involve two trains home too late for Lauren. So we got to town but without really knowing where we were going, so saw most of the town ...

Grindlewald and Interlaken, updated

Just a quick post to say we're still here. Had a good day... visited Grindlewald and Interlaken.  We were gone about 5 hours. Jeff and Lauren napped 4-7 and then I decided we'd ether get take out or room service rather than take Lauren out for a late dinner. Trying to get Lauren to wind down for bed... always a feat after she's eaten food, seems to give her a second wind. She and Jeff are blowing raspberries in each other's faces right now 😀 I'm tired and stuffy so heading to bed. I'll update this post with more details and pictures (I do these posts as much for me to read and remember the trip months or years later as I do to share with all of you, hence my probably oversharing details of our meals!) either tomorrow morning or later tonight if Lauren decides to sleep terribly. Again. Update: full post from yesterday We're getting slow starts here, so no breakfast again yesterday. Instead we stopped at a bakery in town. We got two rolls (looked like c...

Mannlichen

So last night we went to an Italian steakhouse/ pizza place for dinner called Sina's. We kept Lauren entertained with several of those really long skinny hard breadsticks (Mom, remember when you used to buy those for us?) and then when our anti pasta plate arrived (ham, salami, cheese, pickles (they seem to love pickles here!) and really tasty) the waiter (I think he was the owner) looked right at her sitting in Jeff's lap, said "this is for you" and set it right in front of her...a split second later she had both hands smack in the middle of the plate. Pretty funny, wish I'd gotten a picture. Jeff had pizza for dinner, I had spaghetti alla carbonara (good, but not as good as yours, Mom). Lauren sat in our laps until our main course came and then sat pretty happily in her stroller next to me, as long as I kept putting pasta in her mouth! Dinner was really good, probably amplified by the fact it was only our second real meal of the trip and neither of us had lunch....
