I need to stop telling you that Lauren is asleep in her crib... She always wakes up right after I post! We had a lights-on party at midnight last night for over an hour. Anyway, it's all kind of a blur but Jeff got up around 9 and went down to eat; brought me up some eggs and fruit. And coffee (good man!). We got ready and packed up. New arrangement for the trains today (I thought it'd be to hard to get the two suitcases strapped together on and off trains)... suitcase with stroller attached and suitcase with hiking backpack attached and then I rolled the little one and carried Lauren. It worked pretty well. I keep thinking we have so much stuff! But glad we have Lauren with us even if it means lots of extra stuff.

So the trains went well. We caught the train Zurich>Bern first. It was an express and only took about an hour, which was nice. Lauren nursed and slept most of the time. We did have the wrong tickets...we bought tickets to Lucerne, but then the best route to take was thru Bern (I thought we went thru Lucerne but we didn't). Luckily the lady checking tickets spoke English and we were able to just pay the difference for a ticket to Bern and then we were good.
All our connections went well; in Bern we hopped off the train and the next one was right next to us and took off 5 minutes later. In Interlaken we had to haul everything down and back up a fight of stairs to get to the other platform, but got right on the train to Lauterbrunnen. From there we had about a 10 min wait after we boarded the cog wheel train until it took off. It became clear pretty quickly why this was a cog wheel train...2000 feet elevation change in about a 15 minute ride. Beautiful views, lots of waterfalls. Lauren did great on all the trains, though I had to stand with her on the last two. She definitely prefers when she's in her stroller moving or being worn while we're walking!
Wengen is a darling town with breathtaking views. We walked from the train station to our hotel. It was about 1km, but mostly uphill. I was totally panting by the time we made it; I'm going to be toast on our hikes this week! The woman at the checkout took one look at us and said "you didn't call? We pick you up at the train station!" Whoops. Very few cars here; just a few with permits for the hotel shuttles and food/ maintenance. Nice
Our room here is great! It's at the back of the hotel so essentially looking at some very steep tree covered mountains. We've seen occasional hikers coming down behind us. We have a good sized room with a separate sitting room with a curtain between them; they set up Lauren's crib in that front room so we'll see if that helps with sleeping. You can hear cowbells constantly ringing, which is very cool. The views out the front are stunning! They offered us a great rate on dinner each night, but it's 5 courses and doesn't start until 7pm. Lo will never last thru that. So now the only problem is most things here close mid afternoon after lunch and don't open again until 6. And most restaurants are actually affiliated with hotels, require reservations, and also don't serve until 7. So, we walked around town to scope things out but it was only 445, so we're back in the room, Jeff is napping with Lauren and when they wake up we'll go try the pizza place. We may need to start eating big lunches and then just picking up a few things from the grocery store for dinner. This afternoon we did stop there and pick up wine and pretzels to munch on later.
