Well, we made it. I will say, the last 45 minutes of the flight I wondered what we were doing and why we didn't just stay home. Lauren was an absolute trooper, as usual, but between all the people watching at gate, the excitement of boarding, serving drinks and dinner, by the time they turned the lights out on the plane she was wired and over tired. She took 2 20 minute naps with me and Jeff got her to sleep for about an hour. Between that she was mostly content, but occasionally made us get up and rock with her. Anyway, international flights with little sleep are bad enough, but with her Jeff and I got less than an hour of sleep each.
Arrived about 30 minutes early, got thru customs and got luggage uneventfully. Then Jeff lost a contract (luckily packed extras) and I looked at all our luggage (Jeff did an amazing job bungee cording the stroller to one suitcase (great idea, Dad!) and Lauren's suitcase to the other, so he can pull all that with two hands while I carry Lauren in the Ergo, my backpack, and the hiking backpack) and decided we were going to cab to the hotel instead of figuring out the trains and walk to the hotel on little sleep.
When the cab driver saw Lauren in the Ergo he mimed taking her out and ran to the taxi stand office. I really thought he meant we couldn't ride with her strapped on me/ without a car seat, but really he ran over to get an infant car seat! So she was all strapped in and safe (and mad) and I was so happy I almost cried. Then our luck continued as the Marriott had our room ready when we arrived at 1145! The check in guy was so so kind and they brought up a crib for Lauren right away. We have a nice view of the river (we're right next to it and, man, what a current! ) and the lake in the distance. We all did exactly what you're not supposed to do and crashed for 4 hours. Well, Jeff slept for 4 and Lauren and I vaccilated between sleep and hysterics. When she finally woke up happy at 4 I told Jeff we needed to go move around for a bit.
We walked to the train station (only about 5 minutes away, hotel is a great location! ) and then down Banhoffstrasse. Then we wandered thru old town, saw the largest clock face in Europe(if I remember my research correctly), and were looking for a place to stop for a drink and a bite and ended up getting caught in a downpour! Lauren thought it was really fun. It was really so nice to get outside and move and I felt a million times better once we got out. Though of course we all have rain coats we weren't wearing and an umbrella back at the hotel. When the rain finally let up we made our way back. Decided to take advantage of the executive lounge we have access to at the Marriott for dinner, which was good cause Lauren only lasted about 20 minutes.
We are all in bed with lights out at 730 local time. I'm trying not to think about CT! Lauren is shockingly asleep in her crib, knock on wood, and Jeff's researching stuff to do tomorrow.
Full day here tomorrow, supposed to be 65 and dry. We'll stop by the train station and get tickets for Monday so we have a plan for that. Probably lots of walking (11,000 steps today).
