First full day

The girls were predictably up early and anxious to get started. We wandered the resort a bit to get our bearings. Lauren was begging for the beach so we started there, this time at the private cay. The girls were fast fans of the waves, soft sand, and shells. Mostly finding small pieces or tiny shells. I left for nearly an hour to find sunglasses (for me) and sun shirts (girls). I also grabbed coffee and oatmeal and coffee cake at Starbucks plus my book at the room. Then I tagged Jeff and he left for an hour to go for a run. The girls tried their wetsuits in the ocean and then wanted to try them in a pool. We started at one they could swim in, then meet Jeff near the kiddie pool for lunch and then the girls did the kiddie slides and dump bucket stuff for a while. Jeff and Lauren left to do the raging rapids (lazy river but with waves/fast spots) and Abby asked for a snow cone… first I was annoyed at spending $10 on what they pass as a snow cone, but it was easily 30 min of entertainment for her while she sat in my lap, so I changed my mind to considering it money well spent. I don’t think we’ll be back to the kiddie pool much this week. When Jeff and Lauren got back we moved back to a pool they could swim at and we spent a couple of hours there. I got drinks for Jeff and I. Later I got the girls a mojito to share. We came back to the room for a snack and a little tablet time.

We left around 5 to walk to dinner. We went to Margaritaville (just off the property) specifically so we could walk by a small off property convenience store for bread on the way home. We need a vehicle for PB so Lauren can get some protein on this vacation!

We walked by some truly stunning yachts and got a sense on a few other restaurants in the area. We sat outside overlooking the bridges to the island. The restaurant had some games (giant connect four, bags, ring toss) and the girls played while we waited for dinner. The waitress was great and snagged the girls as she brought our dinner over. And when she saw Abby fishing ice cubes out of her Sprite she bright them each a cup of shaved ice when we were leaving. We dumped their Sprite on top and they enjoyed a free snow cone while we walked to get bread and then back to the hotel.

They were asleep by 7:30. I was snuggling with them as they fell asleep and they were both twitching like crazy - I googled it and twitching as you fall asleep is more common when you’re really tired … go figure 😂

I lasted about 2 chapters before I turned off my light and crashed myself. Jeff watched SNF. He’s still in bed at 8:30 as I type this. I came out by the (bickering) girls about 6:30 and we snuggled a bit and then I gave them their tablets and some breakfast while I had coffee and did these 2 posts. We get to meet the Atlantis dolphins this afternoon!

Travel day

Monday.  We really lucked out on weather the first 6 days. The last 3 were definitely not great for the pools. Today was sunny again and it’s amazing how much warmer it felt while we were walking around.  We got up and packed and headed out before 9 to try to catch a feeding. Never saw a feeding but wandered through the aquariums again. Breakfast at Shake Shack. Up over the rope bridge again.  Got our luggage and checked out at 11 and caught our shuttle to the airport. The ride to the hotel seemed to be on major roads, but the ride back to the airport seemed to take us through a ton of small rundown streets. We did go past the US Embassy and a few hospitals as well.  The line for TSA was long but went pretty fast and we cleared customs quickly. I got a Starbucks (coffee for me, pastries for the girls) and the girls colored in the gate area. Flight was easy and the girls discovered they could play tic tac toe against each other on the screens in the seats. We made it ...

Lauterbrunnen and Mürren, updated

Lauren and I are reading books, Jeff's at the laundromat. Really good day today. 21,000 steps! We're pooped! Walked thru the Lauterbrunnen valley, so beautiful. Wonderful day for it, too. Then up a cable car to Murren. I will post more later, but my phone battery is low and I'm going to try to get Lo to sleep. Update:  Yesterday was awesome. Jeff said it was his favorite hike, I still think Mannlichen too Kleine Scheidegg is my fave, but this was a very close second.  Started with breakfast again. L ate more pancakes, I got a fried egg and a roll with Nutella. Yum! Ooh, and the coffee, so good.  Then a nap for L and we got packed for the day. Caught the noon train to Lauterbrunnen. It was our first time leaving the station there; we've changed trains there a ton, but never left the platform. Town was really nice, and we had a gorgeous sunny day. The first waterfall is just outside of the main drag and then we got on what a blog I read called "a ...

Mannlichen

So last night we went to an Italian steakhouse/ pizza place for dinner called Sina's. We kept Lauren entertained with several of those really long skinny hard breadsticks (Mom, remember when you used to buy those for us?) and then when our anti pasta plate arrived (ham, salami, cheese, pickles (they seem to love pickles here!) and really tasty) the waiter (I think he was the owner) looked right at her sitting in Jeff's lap, said "this is for you" and set it right in front of her...a split second later she had both hands smack in the middle of the plate. Pretty funny, wish I'd gotten a picture. Jeff had pizza for dinner, I had spaghetti alla carbonara (good, but not as good as yours, Mom). Lauren sat in our laps until our main course came and then sat pretty happily in her stroller next to me, as long as I kept putting pasta in her mouth! Dinner was really good, probably amplified by the fact it was only our second real meal of the trip and neither of us had lunch....
